CYANCAN aims to give its contribution through the search of new anticancer natural compounds
Cyanobacteria as the source of natural compounds
The unique chemical diversity of The Blue Biotechnology and Ecotoxicology Culture Collection (LEGE-CC) will be explored, namely strains from Nostocales, Oscillatoriales, and Chroococcales orders.
New strategies for the discovery of natural compounds
The isolation of promising compounds will bridge classical bioassay-guided fractionation with modern genome-guided natural product discovery.
New cyanobacterial molecules with anticancer activity
The project will employ physiologically relevant cancer screening assays (3D tumor spheroids),
in order to find successful anticancer lead candidates.
